ThegovernmentofBarbados,throughtheBarbadosCaneIndustryCorp(BCIC)hasestablishedaCaneIndustryRestructuringProject(CIRP).TheobjectiveoftheProjectistorestructuretheSugar

CaneindustryinBarbadostooperateatahigherlevelofefficiency

andproducenewproductssuchasethanol,electricitybycogeneration,

specialsugars,etc.

BasedonastudyconductedbyShafferAssociatesin2005,

CIRPischargedwithbuildinganewsugarcanefactorytoproducerefinedsugar,

specialsugars,molasses,ethanol,electricity,fancymolasses,bottledwater,

andotherproductsofthesugarcane.

TheobjectivesofthisprojectaretorestructurethesugarindustryofBarbadosinamannerthat：

(i)maximizesthevalueofsugarcanetotheBarbadoseconomybyprovidingfinancialbenefitstoallstakeholders;

(ii)realizeotherincomestreamstosustaintheindustry(ethanol,electricityetc).

(iii)reducesthelevelofsubsidythattheGovernmentcontributestotheindustry;

(iv)retainsthe“lookandfeel”ofBarbadosforfuturegenerations,

whilemeetingthegreenenergyobjectivesasstatedintheNationalEnergyPolicy;

sequentgenerationofelectricityisapriority.AsChinaisaworldleaderintheuseofthistechnology,

wearewonderingifanyofyourbusinesseshavedevelopedacommercialplantforbagassegasific

ationandifthereinanyinterestinworkingwithustodesignbuildandcommissionsuchaplantinBarbados.
