A non-profit organization, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), is the apex body of fashion design in India, represented by over***

members. Its creative oeuvre has remained to maintain the purity of the processes behind the glittering stage of fashion giving it a recognisable identity.

FDCI’s métier has been to strategize a 360-degree approach to take India and its fashion designers on to a global platform. It gives unparalleled opportunities and level playing field to womenswear, menswear and accessory designers to highlight their talent and showcase India’s rich heritage.

 

Over the years, FDCI has matched its steps with the changing needs of the business of fashion and has relentlessly worked to give a fresh impetus to it. It has got unquestionable support from the Government of India - Ministry of Commerce and Industry & Ministry of Textiles, and other departments, which has only helped it soar to new heights.

In keeping with the Government’s commitment towards the social and economic development of handloom weavers, the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in collaboration with FDCI hosted ‘Weaves of Banaras’. This was part of the Make in India Week, held in Mumbai recently. The show celebrated the crafts of Banaras, its inimitable weaves and the unmatched skills of the weavers, which was a fitting tribute to the existing artistry of India.

 

In continuum, FDCI, took a step further and collaborated with the Gujarat State Khadi & Village Industries Board to present the second edition of ‘Huts to High Street. It endorsed the Prime Minister ’s message of reviving the enigma of khadi, at IIM Ahmedabad. Actors Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor walked the ramp showing solidarity with this fabric of freedom.

 

FDCI partnered with the Ministry of External Affairs and presented a show titled, ‘Threads of Banaras’, as part of the ‘First Ladies’ program during the India-Africa Forum Summit in October 2015. It paid homage to Banarasi weaves and revived the lost splendour of Banaras through surreal ensembles.

 

FDCI is the epicenter for activities supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as it actively facilitates trade at fashion weeks. It has also played an important role in developing marketing strategies, setting standards and providing tangible value for its members over the last 16 years. A pan- Indian fashion body, the FDCI integrates designers from various states, cities and towns of India into one cohesive body. Representing both established and emerging designers, it plays an important role in guiding the industry towards its goal of sustainable growth.
